If an upcoming course date does not appear on the above link, that course is sold out. Contact US Sailing at the above email with any questions.

The US Sailing Level 1 Instructor course is divided into two sections:

- A 3-day in-person section of the Level 1 course is approximately 30 hours and students will be evaluated on their teaching ability, sailing skills, powerboat handling skills and on-water class management, among other topics.

- A self-guided online introduction section of Level 1. The self-guided section allows participants to learn at their own pace and includes no scheduled interaction with an Instructor Trainer. This online course must be completed prior to attendance at the 3-day in-person section. US Sailing recommends that the in-person section is attended within three months of the online course completion for maximum retention and successful completion.

However, see another Oakcliff event on April 26-27 at this link.

Held at Oakcliff Sailing Center, Oyster Bay NY

This clinic is an immersive dive into keelboat racing for every level of youth sailor. It will be the fastest way to get out on the water and race in a grand prix format. We will spend the first day working on boat handling and boat speed, followed by a team BBQ. On day two we will incorporate and build on existing fleet racing knowledge and return to the water for a full day of racing.

Wrap up these workshops by visiting NESS in Stonington, Conn. on April 27th, for hands-on training and a first look at the third annual release of the NESS B-WET Tacklebox.

Virtual Sessions from 5-6PM:
  • April 3 Kickoff the speaker series with Nina Quaratella, NESS' Director of Programs, and Hannah King, Education Specialist, as they dive into the best practices NESS Educators and the B-WET Teacher Cohort use when blending experiential learning in alternative school settings and how they impact the social-emotional learning (SEL) skill growth in students.
  • April 17 Learn from Val Perini, Regional Education Manager with Massachusetts’ largest preservation and conservation nonprofit, The Trustees, as she shares her experiences working in outdoor education and how to connect issues such as climate change and culture to programs at The Trustees’ conservation sites. Explore free resources to use when developing your own field programming, and reflect on essential elements that support students' investigation while designing environmental action projects.
  • April 24 Join Maggie Cozens, The Long Island Sound Study Outreach Coordinator with CT Sea Grant, as she shares their work facilitating place-placed learning and empowering students to investigate and take action in their watersheds
-In Person Workshop @ NESS in Stonington CT

Hear from NESS Educators and B-WET cohort teachers on their best practices used to engage and inspire students when teaching environmental education. After a morning at NESS, get your feet wet and your hands muddy as we travel to a nearby monitoring site to explore a local estuarine environment and gather water quality data.

Online Zoom meeting 7 - 9 pm.

We invite regatta volunteers from your club, both veterans and new, to join the discussions, share their experiences and provide a perspective on some of the issues and challenges that that we all face when running a junior event. The agenda is being developed now, so if you have questions or suggestions about regatta hosting, please contact Bob Whittredge using his contact info above.

Each club that plans to host a regatta this summer (or thinking of hosting one in the future) should arrange for its regatta representatives (regatta committee members, race management team, and regatta registrar) to attend this workshop.

Please inform those at your club who will benefit from participating in the workshop. Regatta chairs, race officers, regatta committee members/volunteers, sailing and program directors are all welcome.
